Is “Self-Help” Really the Antithesis of Self Loathing?

Some people would argue that self help techniques are actually counter productive to their very aim, because self help implies that there is something within you that needs to be fixed.

Are we becoming too heavily concerned with correcting imperfections when our very existence was actually intended to be perfectly “imperfect,” or are we actually creating a “better” version of ourselves?

For many years the question, “What is wrong with me?” has plagued me. Always striving towards perfection, searching for a way to be a better person, to become more likable in the eyes of society, never have I stopped to think that I am perfectly fine just the way I am. Though many self help techniques aim to create this growth of inner acceptance, the work often seems futile. I do this, and I do that, and yet I still feel exactly the same, “What is wrong with me?” It creates a cycle of defeat in which self empowerment often feels daunting.

So what is the answer to this dilemma?
